SFL Academy of Small Satellite Design Welcomes 13 New Apprentices

The SFL Academy of Small Satellite Design, a not-for-profit division of SFL Missions Inc., has welcomed 13 students to the SFL Apprenticeship Program. This is the second class of apprentices to be accepted into the competitive two-year paid training course. Eight students entered the inaugural class in 2025.

The SFL Apprenticeship Program develops highly skilled spacecraft engineers through focused technical coursework and hands-on training in small tightly integrated teams led by experienced staff. Learning extends across the spacecraft development lifecycle, offering opportunities to work on spacecraft assembly, integration and testing, as well as launch campaigns, commissioning and on-orbit operations.

The program draws on SFL’s 28 years of experience developing small, micro, and nanosatellite missions for commercial, government, and research customers. SFL currently has 98 operationally successful missions as part of that heritage. Being exposed to real-life spacecraft development teams through the program, the next generation of engineers gains practical experience to set the standard for future cost-effective small satellites and high-performance constellations.
